For establishment of a new division, the CPA requires interest from a minimum number of members. The March/April 2003 edition of Contact, the official newsletter of CPA, included a survey to all members regarding international health and their interest in forming a division. The response rate from the survey was very high, with 533 members responding to the survey. Among the respondents, 91 (17.1%) reported being currently or previously involved in international health initiatives, and among these, 73 (71.6%) indicated that the projects were related to PT or rehabilitation.

The survey, as with the international health luncheon, indicates a great interest in international health. Overall, 334 members (62.7% of survey respondents) indicated that they would join a CPA division dedicated to international health. Moreover, 154 (30.6%) of respondents indicated that they would also be willing to volunteer in the establishment and creation of this division. Please refer to the report listed under the resources part of the website for more information about the survey results and the interest of the CPA members.

During the first membership drive for the 2004-2005 year, more than 150 members joined the division.
